Partnership e-Fulfilment Hub introduces a 'maturity model' for the e-fulfilment sector. This scientific model measures in organisations the maturity of their e-fulfilment competence and gives them practical insights on how they can develop to a more mature level.

The maturity model was developed by e-Fulfilment Hub (the collective of entrepreneurs, governments and educational institutions from the Keyport region) in collaboration with the Fontys minor 'E-preneurship' and validated by various sector experts. The model is intended for both web shops and fulfilment companies.

The collective sees e-fulfilment - despite the strong growth of e-commerce in recent years - as still a young field, with little (scientific) literature available on it. "As yet, there is a lack of accepted theoretical models and best practices on the basis of which companies can organise their e-fulfilment," the collective states in a press release. With the e-Fulfilment Hub maturity model, the collective on the one hand closes the knowledge gap and deepens the literature around e-fulfilment and on the other hand supports companies in their development. The core of the model is: how mature is your e-fulfilment process and how do you take the step to a more mature process?"

Functioning of maturity model

Through a compact questionnaire, the model indicates which stage of the maturity model a company is at. The maturity model consists of four successive levels, which together describe the e-fulfilment process. Within this process, organisations can progress from a 'rookie' (low) level to an 'all-star' (high) level, with each level describing the level of maturity of the e-fulfilment competence. Based on this, the model gives them practical insights and areas for improvement that need to be implemented to develop the e-fulfilment competence to a more mature level.
