More and more companies are taking measures to avoid possible stock shortages due to the corona virus. With production in China virtually at a standstill, scarcity is expected, especially in electronics products.

Coolblue already admitted on Monday that it plans to temper sales by raising prices and discontinuing marketing activities. In an email to partners, Coolblue writes it is doing so because production in China is at a low ebb. In preparation, the online giant is "filling its sheds to the brim".

Apple salesman: 'In 4 weeks it will be really tight'

Apple also warned of a drop in global smartphone supply due to the shutdown of factories, saying the reopening of production sites in China would take longer than initially expected. Apple retailer Amac says it is already feeling the effects. Speaking to NOS, CEO Ed Bindels says: "I assume there will be a real scarcity." Bindels expects Amac to be able to rely on current stocks for another three to four weeks or so. "After that, it will be really tight."

Extra stock

To the ANP, retail chain Blokker already revealed that it foresees problems in the supply of certain products. Which items are involved, the retailer is keeping to itself. It says it is buying additional items and looking at alternatives.

MediaMarkt and bol.com say they are not yet facing problems. However, the situation is being closely monitored. To Tweakers, MediaMarkt says it is in constant dialogue with partners and suppliers. Bol.com stores extra stock for certain products, such as electronics. However, this happens on a small scale. Because bol.com works with several suppliers per product, there is usually an alternative available.
