WMS expert Jeroen van den Berg has developed a free online selection tool to support logisticians in their search for a new warehouse management system (WMS).
Those looking for a new WMS can determine the selection criteria for the WMS package themselves on wms-software.eu. Users can select on industry experience, price range, technology, functionality and the provider's support organisation, among others. The independent free tool then finds the right match among all existing WMS packages in the Benelux.
Right selection criteria
"I have been walking around the WMS world as an independent consultant for 20 years and was looking for innovative ways to help companies," says Van den Berg about the development of the selection tool. "That led me to an online tool, but one with the right selection criteria. I noticed in my own projects that usually three to four criteria were decisive in choosing a shortlist. Although they were different criteria each time. I put the distinguishing criteria together."
'Look to the future'
According to the initiator, it is essential that companies look to the future when selecting a new WMS. "What if logistics requirements change, can the WMS grow with them? And be careful not to rebuild a standard package with customisation. That is a dead end. It becomes increasingly difficult to still adapt the package to new logistics requirements and the dependence on the WMS provider grows."
