IKEA is going to deliver packages in Amsterdam electrically. It is the second city worldwide where the store is switching to electric driving.
In the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai, IKEA already delivers electrically, with Amsterdam to follow from May. The furniture giant will use 22 electric vehicles within the capital's ring road. New York, Los Angeles and Paris will also soon see electric deliveries.
'Challenging step'
Paul de Jong, director IKEA Netherlands, calls the switch to electric transport a challenge "We are entering new territory." With this step, the store hopes to inspire other players in the industry to also initiate sustainable change.
Sustainable ambitions
The knowledge IKEA gains in Amsterdam and other cities will be used for roll-out to the rest of the Netherlands and all other countries where the Swedish company operates. By 2025, IKEA aims to deliver only emission-free. It has the ambition to operate in a circular and climate-positive way from 2030.
