Parcel delivery company Red je Pakketje is opening a smart charging plaza with forty charging points in Amsterdam together with Vattenfall. The smart charging stations will be directly connected to the parcel delivery company's route planner, which should reduce the load on the electricity grid.
Red je pakketje expects to drive over 10,000 green kilometres per month from its new distribution centre in Amsterdam from the end of October. The same-day delivery specialist has initially installed forty charging points there.

Reduce peak load on electricity grid
This is a 'smart charging plaza', which means that the charging stations activate themselves when there is a surplus in the electricity market. "You increasingly hear that the electricity network is reaching its limits," explains COO Tijs van Driel, "which is why the smart charging stations are connected to our route planner. The charging stations know how far a delivery bus is going to drive and provide the right amount of electricity. Also, the charging stations work mainly at night, when the demand for electricity is low. Both techniques reduce the peak load on the electricity grid."
Red je Pakketje and Vattenfall have more charging stations planned, both in Amsterdam and in other cities. Additional expansions first require reinforcement of the electricity grid. That application takes several months. "When the time comes, we will expand the charging installations further," it sounds from Vattenfall.
