Red je Pakketje is one step closer to a CO2-free delivery network. The parcel service raised EUR 12.5 million from various investors to green its delivery fleet.

With this funding, Red je Pakketje says it will succeed in making its delivery network completely CO2-free. A year ago, the company, which currently still uses many diesel buses, expressed its ambition to be the first carrier to deliver completely emission-free throughout the Netherlands. Those plans should become reality by 2022.

Acquisition costs of electric transport

About 10 to 15 per cent of the routes will be replaced by bicycle routes in the coming years. The rest of the rides will be accommodated by electric or hydrogen buses. The €12.5 million capital injection will help Red je Pakketje buy 210 electric delivery buses. This will enable it to deliver over 70 per cent of its parcels electrically. Up to 300 additional vehicles will follow in the coming years.

The green fleet requires a charging infrastructure. For this, the company is working with Vattenfall and Van der Sijs. They say they will build one of the largest charging plazas in the Netherlands.

Funding

The money received by the parcel service is a combination of equity and debt capital. The debt capital comes from Dutch scale-up Beequip. "Basecore Capital helped us think out and set up the whole financial structure," explains CEO Sam Rohn. "At the same time, they found investors who believe in our plan. Beequip was immediately enthusiastic about our goal not only to be the first to deliver CO2-free throughout the Netherlands, but also to demonstrate that it is now quite possible to switch completely to CO2-free delivery on a large scale."
