After two weeks, the strike at the Wehkamp distribution centre in Maurik is over. The strikers agreed on Monday evening to a new social plan proposed by the online retailer.

Wehkamp is reorganising and therefore closing its distribution centre in Maurik. Trade union FNV expressed dissatisfaction with the settlement Wehkamp offered to staff members who would lose their jobs. In late July, employees in Maurik decided to lay down work. Staff also went on strike at the head office in Zwolle.

The new social plan stipulates that employees will receive higher severance pay. In addition, they will receive budget for training and guidance towards new work and will receive a contribution for legal and financial advice.

Trade union FNV satisfied with the result. On the day of the agreement, Wehkamp also published its results for the past financial year. The online shop posted 50 per cent more profit to 24 million euros. The retailer says this is the result of its new strategy, which focuses on profitable product categories and cost savings.
