Jungheinrich has started production at its new plant in Chomutov, Czech Republic. After a construction period of about 10 months, the first ETV 216i reach truck rolled off the line there on 6 June. The new 37,000-square-metre site will create more than 350 new jobs locally. The project budget is around EUR 60 million.

The new plant is a central building block for Jungheinrich to achieve the growth targets from its Strategy 2025+ and increase the company's efficiency and profitability. Sabine Neuß, Chief Technology Officer at Jungheinrich AG, says: "With the new plant, we are expanding capacity within our European production network and ensuring that we can continue to meet the continued strong growth in demand for our internal transport equipment. In Chomutov, we have built one of the most modern production facilities for forklift trucks worldwide."

24 hours a day

Currently, the new plant is still running in a single-shift operation; in the medium term, the plant will switch to a three-shift operation to provide 24-hour production. Jungheinrich plans to gradually move all reach truck production to the new Chomutov plant. This will free up additional capacity at the Norderstedt plant, which the company will use to enable further growth here too. At the Norderstedt plant, Jungheinrich will expand its production portfolio to include parts for other order picker trucks.

Efficiency and sustainability

Jungheinrich has set itself the goal of creating sustainable value and therefore paid particular attention to efficiency and sustainability when designing the new plant. All equipment in the plant, from workstations to complex production facilities, features modern technology such as a new production control system.

In addition to using green electricity and installing a heat pump, special thermal insulation in the office wing provides additional energy savings. Jungheinrich further reduces water consumption using a system that collects rainwater. Moreover, the factory is located on a 1.5-hectare green site with native shrubs and trees, contributing to local biodiversity.

First reach truck

The first reach truck from Chomutov will be shipped to "MARIE" in France, one of the biggest players in the French market for ready meals and pasta. The ETV 216i is part of the Jungheinrich POWERLiNE and has an integrated lithium-ion battery.
