TLN, evofenedex and the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment (IenM) are going to make a joint commitment to data sharing in logistics. The three parties will start work on a data sharing mover that will allow public and private data in the logistics sector to be exchanged.
The OpenTripModel (OTM) is an open source data sharing model conceived and developed by Simacan. OTM contributes in busy city centres, for example, to improved traffic flow, greater liveability and greater road safety. On behalf of the three parties, the Uniform Transport Code Foundation will now work to accelerate the use and further development of the OpenTripModel together with the logistics sector, for the greatest possible impact on inner cities.
Open source
The OTM provides a common language for sharing logistics and traffic data. As the language is open source, anyone may use and improve it free of charge. This allows the logistics sector to share data among themselves and with road authorities that is currently not shared. This includes information on current roadworks, events, window times, loading and unloading points, environmental zones and preferred and less preferred routes. "Most shippers work with a multitude of carriers. Using the OTM as a language, integral insight can be gained across the chain of carriers. When can I expect which carrier to arrive at my branch or depot. This makes loading and unloading planning a lot more efficient," states Machiel van de Kuijl, director of evofenedex
Scale up and expand
The Ministry of IenM, TLN and evofenedex have decided to transfer the OTM to the Uniform Transport Code Foundation, an existing industry foundation. The foundation will focus on scaling up and expanding to national and international scale with more IT suppliers, shippers, carriers and logistics service providers.
