Zalando is working with Fietskoeriers.nl to make the last mile more sustainable. Parcels from the online giant will be delivered to homes by cargo bicycle in four Dutch cities.
This is a pilot in Nijmegen, Amersfoort, Arnhem and Zwolle. Zalando says it is actively seeking cooperation with regional partners to make the last mile more sustainable. With the insights from this project, the fashion retailer hopes to gain more insight into the opportunities and challenges of CO2-neutral delivery.
Zalando and Fietskoeriers.nl have deliberately opted for evening delivery. The courier will come to the door between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. "With evening delivery, the recipient is home more often, which means the delivery can be done once in most cases," says Marieke Snoek, general director of Cyclone.
Cyclone founded Fietskoeriers.nl in 2016. The company now cycles in more than 30 cities. By 2025, the counter should reach 75 cities. "We already deliver in over 30 cities in the Netherlands and hope that the cooperation with Zalando will inspire other big companies to make more sustainable choices, so that we can deliver green in even more cities."
