Zalando wants to start testing reusable packaging. Customers can return the box or shipping bag to Zalando, which the e-tailer then reuses.
To German newspaper Rheinische Post, Uwe Streiber, team leader of packaging management at Zalando, says the online giant wants to deploy reusable packaging in the second half of this year. The test will be held in several countries. "The more often it is used, the better for the environment," he says.

Some 13 per cent of Zalando's environmental impact can be traced back to packaging. In addition to introducing reusable packaging, Zalando is looking for alternatives to plastic more often. From June, beauty products will be shipped with paper packaging. Alternatives to polybags, in which clothes are packed, are also to be introduced. "These could be paper alternatives or recycled material as we are already using more often," he says.
