Older professional drivers will have to take compulsory 35 hours of refresher training from 1 July to continue using the C and/or D driving licence professionally. Drivers born before 1 July 1955 are currently exempt from this training obligation. For them, the compulsory code 95 is automatically entered on the driving licence. This summer, these regulations will change. This means that drivers must have completed the refresher training for the D-driving licence by 10 September 2015. Exactly one year later, the periodic training for the C driving licence must also be completed. According to EVO, drivers have three other options to obtain the Code 95:
Have completed hours registered retrospectively
This means that drivers who have completed refresher training hours but have not registered them can still have these registered with the CBR. The driver will then receive a Code 95 free of charge, which is valid for five years. It is advisable to do this only after 1 June 2015, as prior to that date the validity period is aligned with that of the driving licence.
Top up Code 95 by 1 June
In addition, C and D licence holders can have their code 95 topped up before 1 June, while the period of validity of the licence remains the same. Only after mid-February were all municipalities informed about this option, so it is advisable to wait until then.
Renewing a driving licence
Holders of C and D driving licences can also renew their licence early, so that it is valid for a further five years. Code 95 will then also be added for that period. The driver must, however, undergo a standard medical examination. Drivers who submitted a so-called ‘Self-Declaration’ for the renewal of their driving licence to the CBR before 1 March 2015 will be treated in accordance with current legislation. Code 95 will be added to their licence with the same expiry date as the new driving licence, even if the application is submitted to the local authority after 1 June 2015. If the Self-Declaration is submitted after 1 March 2015, there is no guarantee that the CBR will process it before 1 June 2015.
