Transporeon is now also opening its Freight Marketplace to freight forwarders. They can offer their shipments to interested carriers via Transporeon's platform. For forwarders, use of the spot market is free, while carriers pay a fixed €100 per month. Ten major freight forwarders are already actively using the Transporeon platform to find carriers. Thousands of carriers have signed up for the spot market.

In unpredictable and uncertain times, the spot market is a welcome haven for companies seeking transport capacity. Transporeon has therefore been offering shippers the opportunity to offer their transport orders on the spot market for some time. At the time when their regular, contracted carriers are not available, they can offer their transport order via this spot market to the total pool of 150,000 carriers connected to the platform.

Now Transporeon also offers that option to freight forwarders looking for reliable capacity and carriers operating their assets looking for spot freight. The platform thus offers a modern, efficient alternative to established freight exchange platforms, leveraging Transporeon's technology base and extensive user base.

Free for forwarders

The Freight Marketplace's enhanced functionality addresses common pain points in the spot freight market. For instance, it introduces a disruptive pricing model: free access for freight forwarders posting shipments and a fixed, monthly fee of €100 for carriers - regardless of company size and number of users. This typically brings cost savings of 50 per cent on average compared to other established platforms.

The comprehensive Freight Marketplace is built with modern technology, uses Transporeon's in-depth industry expertise and has an intuitive interface. Key innovations include:

  • AI-powered verification: Cumbersome manual processes are replaced by automated checks of carrier identity and insurance details. This also ensures greater speed and accuracy.
  • Integrated negotiation: Price negotiations take place directly on the platform, with direct access to anonymised benchmark data on market prices and trends, eliminating inefficient offline haggling.

Lower prices

"This is a strategic expansion for Transporeon, leveraging the strength of our platform and network," said Jonah McIntire, chief platform officer at Transporeon. "We are now expanding our proven capabilities to specifically serve the forwarder-carrier spot market, a segment that deserves modernisation and lower prices. We are introducing a significantly more cost-effective, efficient and transparent solution including AI to fundamentally improve the way forwarders and carriers connect and handle spot business."

The launch of these new features is in response to a high demand from the market. Ten major freight forwarders are already actively using Freight Marketplace for their spot freight needs, migrating volumes there that were previously handled through other freight exchange platforms. Meanwhile, thousands of carriers have also already signed up to the waiting list. They will have access to these new forwarder-focused features from April 2025.

Gartner sees opportunities

One of the connected freight forwarders is Gartner from Austria. "As a leading freight forwarder, we are always looking for innovative solutions that improve efficiency and transparency in the spot freight market," said Markus Fuerlinger, chief information officer at Gartner. "Transporeon's Freight Marketplace offers an attractive opportunity to streamline our operations and a modern, cost-effective alternative to traditional freight exchange platforms. With an intuitive interface, integrated negotiation tools and AI-driven carrier verification, we see great potential in this technology. With it, we can improve the way we connect with trusted carriers and manage our spot freight needs."
