Dutch
trade and manufacturing companies are incurring millions in losses due to a labour dispute
between dockworkers and port authorities in the US. This is according to the shippers’ organisation
EVO.

Due to
the dispute, there are major delays at ports on the west coast. Many
ships are being forced to anchor off the coast. Diversions to other
ports, such as Houston, are also slowing down the flow of goods for businesses, as the
rest of the journey must then be completed by road or rail.

In the
summer of 2014, significant losses were also incurred due to delays in the
Port of Rotterdam, but these were quickly resolved at the time. That does not seem to be
to be the case. The total losses across Europe have now already run into
the millions. And a solution seems
still a long way off for the time being.
