Road safety is not compromised geding by longer trucks. Research on longer and heavier truck combinations shows that these vehicles are good for traffic flow and participate safely in traffic.

Ten accidents
Arcadis took a close look at lzv's and ecocombis for the research report. The study shows that over the period 2011-2013, there were a total of 10 accidents involving a lzv. In seven accidents there was only material damage and in three of those accidents one person suffered minor injuries. Most of the accidents happened on motorways. There was also often no direct link between the specific lzv characteristics (longer or heavier) and the accident.

Cross-border traffic
The number of longer and heavier truck combinations in the Netherlands is now around 1,100. Lzv's are not currently allowed in cross-border traffic. Shippers' organisation EVO and Transport en Logistiek Nederland (TLN) call this the important next step. They are therefore working hard on a Benelux trial to allow LPV traffic between Belgium and the Netherlands.
