Delivery services in Europe face additional competition from UPS. The US logistics provider wants to invest 1 billion euros in the expansion of its network in Germany and the rest of Europe. That money will mainly be invested in sorting centres and delivery points. This was said by UPS Germany's top executive Frank Sportolari in an interview with German magazine Wirtschafswoche.
Attempted takeover of TNT Express
The move follows shortly after it was announced that TNT Express will be acquired by FedEx. Last week, it was announced that FedEx had made a 4.4 billion bid for TNT Express. UPS attempted to acquire TNT Express as recently as 2013, but saw this proposal go up in smoke due to competition concerns from the European Commission.
Market share
In Europe, Deutsche Post/DHL is the market leader with a 40 per cent share, followed by UPS (25 per cent of the market). TNT Express and FedEx hold 12 per cent and 10 per cent of the market respectively.
