Amazon
is set to deliver online orders via the underground in New York. Orders
can therefore be delivered to the customer’s doorstep within an hour.
Amazon offers consumers one-hour delivery for $7.99. In Manhattan
, however, this aim is somewhat ambitious given the heavy traffic. That is why the e-retailer
decided to make use of public transport.
Orders in trolleys on the underground
How does delivery via the underground work? No separate trains are used. The
parcels simply travel in the same carriages as New Yorkers. A delivery driver pushes the
orders in trolleys from one metro train to the next. In principle, this is
not prohibited, as long as they do not cause a nuisance to other passengers, according to New York’s
Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The question is, however, whether passengers are happy with the trolleys in Manhattan’s already overcrowded underground.
