Amazon
is going to deliver online orders by underground in New York. Orders
can thus be delivered to the customer's mat within the hour.
Amazon is offering consumers one-hour delivery for $7.99. In Manhattan
that aspiration is somewhat ambitious due to the many traffic jams. Therefore, the etailer
decided to make use of public transport.
Orders in trolleys on the underground
How does underground delivery work? No separate trains will be put in. The
parcels simply travel in the same cabs as New York residents. A delivery driver pushes the
orders in trolleys from underground train to underground train. In principle, this is
not prohibited, as long as they do not inconvenience other travellers, according to New York's
Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The question is whether passengers are happy with the trolleys in Manhattan's already crowded underground system.
