In Calais, strict measures are being taken against the large flow of refugees trying to make the crossing to Britain via trucks. For instance, the car park in front of the Channel Tunnel is undergoing major reconstruction and an 18-kilometre road is being built on which lorries can continue to drive in circles. This will make it more difficult for the refugees to climb onto the trucks.

Tracking dogs and fences
X-ray scanners, CO2 scanners and thermal cameras were already being used in the tunnel, but dogs are also being deployed to smell if there are people in the trucks. The site will also be fitted with new, thicker fences, mostly with barbed wire.

Storming trucks
Calais has been weighed down for months by the large number of migrants hoping to get to Britain via the Channel Tunnel. Trucks stopped there are being stormed en masse, leading to insecurity for drivers and a lot of damage. Some Dutch transport companies have therefore boycotted the crossing to Britain.
