There is a significant increase in demand for logistics staff. The number of vacancies rose in
by no less than 17 per cent in the second quarter. Particularly striking is the growing
demand for highly qualified supply chain professionals, according to research
by Yacht. The increase is mainly attributable to growth in exports and production in the Netherlands.
Focus on optimisation
In the second quarter of 2015, there were 5,000 logistics and procurement vacancies to be filled. Demand for buyers, planners and freight forwarders rose by over 11 per cent. Particularly striking is the strong growth in supply chain analysts (86 per cent) and senior supply chain professionals (15 per cent). “The rise in these roles shows that, alongside their focus on increasing production, companies are also focusing on restructuring and optimising their supply chain,” says Hilbrand van der Kooi, Business Development Manager at Yacht.
Need for chain cooperation
According to Yacht, the focus this year is mainly on chain cooperation. "Optimisation of the supply chain is currently the hot topic within the production and supply chain," says Van der Kooi. "Success factors for shaping chain cooperation are a strategy with a longer-term focus, an infrastructure focused on process control and transparency and trust as behavioural components."
Notable rise Utrecht and Breda
With 908 vacancies, Rotterdam/The Hague is the most attractive region for logistics professionals. The strongest rise in vacancies for highly skilled professionals is in the hinterland of the port of Rotterdam. The Amsterdam region is approaching the leader with 890 vacancies. In Utrecht, demand for Supply Chain professionals rose by as much as 35 per cent and in Breda by 27 per cent.
