The transport and logistics sector can also expect fine figures for the second half of 2015. According to the ING Economic Bureau, the sector's volume will grow by 2.7 per cent this year. That is 0.3 per cent more growth than last year.
Logistics services
The sector's growth is mainly due to the economic recovery. Logistics service providers in particular are farming well. At 3.5 per cent, they are growing more strongly than the rest of the sector.
Challenging playing field
Despite the positive reports, rate pressure needs to be watched out for. "This is increasingly emphatically a child of concern," said Machiel Bode sector manager Transport and Logistics at ING. "For some time now, rates in transport and logistics have barely increased (apart from the effect of fuel prices), which means the playing field remains challenging despite recovery. Financial progress must therefore be achieved from within, through other (strategic) choices for customers or areas of operation and efficiency improvements."
