Toyota remains the largest supplier of forklift trucks worldwide. The Japanese company posted sales of $7.7 billion in 2014. This is evident from the global top 20 forklift suppliers, compiled by Modern Materials Handling (MMH). Toyota is closely followed by KION Group ($5.3 billion) and Jungheinrich ($3 billion).
Tailift acquisition
Toyota turned in a good year in 2014, partly due to its acquisition of Tailift, manufacturer of electric and internal combustion forklifts, among others. With some 1,000 employees and a production of 28,000 forklifts, Tailift ranks 15th in the MMH list.
Decline in value
MMH's figures show that the total value of the biggest players in the list did fall. The players in the top 20 were collectively worth about 3.5 per cent less. The number of forklifts sold actually increased. Orders were up 8 per cent last year.
