Dutch companies lost 852 million euros last year due to numerous traffic jams in the Netherlands. That an increase compared to last year, when damage due to traffic jams amounted to 797 million euros. EVO and Transport en Logistiek Nederland (TLN) therefore call for a faster approach to the bottlenecks on Dutch roads.

Businesses hit costs
Traffic jams do not just annoy, they cost as much as 852 million euros a year. Companies regularly have to detour to avoid a traffic jam, or they are forced to use extra vehicles to still deliver goods on time. Furthermore, advanced route planning is required to respond to traffic jams. As a result, additional costs are incurred in the planning departments. As goods are delivered late, companies incur delays in their production process, which also creates additional costs.

Top 20 most expensive traffic jams
The research from the Economic Roadmap shows the twenty most expensive traffic jams in the Netherlands for companies. This immediately shows which bottlenecks need to be tackled first. The greatest economic damage caused by traffic jams took place in North Brabant: on the A58 between the Galder and Batadorp junctions (€8.4 million). Furthermore, the province of South Holland appears especially often in the list: almost half of the most expensive stretches come from that province. The top 20 will be debated in the House of Representatives today.
