Supermarket chain Plus is to significantly improve its home delivery option in the coming years. Already now, consumers can have their groceries delivered to their homes. The order is then delivered on the same day or a day later, but that should go a lot faster in the future.

Plus chief executive Jan Brouwer spoke to BNR Radio about the supermarket chain's new strategy. "We have biggest plans to reduce delivery times," Brouwer said. Plus firmly believes that home delivery is the future. Last week, Luuk Lantinga, property director of Plus, argued that independent collection points are not in demand by consumers. Albert Heijn and Jumbo's pick-up points were said to be doing "very poorly". Plus itself also has sixty to seventy pick-up points, but onsumers would rather have their orders delivered to their doorstep.

No meal boxes
The meal boxes offered by competitor Albert Heijn are not an option for Plus. "We still feel a little bit that the system with meal boxes does not match the consumer's choices," Brouwer told BNR. "It's quite a tight straitjacket after all. Sometimes you have to take out an expensive subscription."
