Letting
idling the engine is bad for the environment, especially if the engine is powerful enough to
lorry. Many lorry drivers do this to
keep the cab warm whilst they sleep. The company Idle Smart has
come up with a solution and is launching a smart thermostat for lorry drivers.

The company aims to use the thermostat to significantly reduce emissions from stationary
trucks. It also significantly reduces diesel consumption
when the engine is switched off whilst drivers are taking a break.

time locks
The thermostat operates via an Android tablet on which
the driver can set time locks and temperatures. This allows them to set
how high the thermostat should be set and at what times. It is also possible to
set when the engine should automatically switch on or off as
the outside temperature changes. The battery status is also
is monitored so that the driver does not find themselves with a flat battery
. Idle Smart writes about this
on its website: “A
battery protection system monitors the battery and keeps the engine running if the
battery voltage requires it.”

The engine runs
fewer

The company expects to achieve significant savings on fuel and
emissions as an added benefit. When the lorry is stationary, the engine will
on average 50 to 70 per cent less. The number of litres of petrol saved
can be viewed via the app, which also displays all the data relating to the lorry
. The app costs the driver between $45 and $90
per month in subscription fees.
