DHL wants to build a new branch in the Rotterdam-Den Haag region on the A4 in Den Hoorn. The plot where the new Service Centre will be built is over 16,000 m2. The newly to be built branch will bring together two existing Service Centres of DHL express.

Kiotoweg branch in Rotterdam and on Laan van Waalhaven will move to the new site. Currently, both parts of the express division still share premises with sister company DHL Parcel, but that division will be given room to grow in its current locations. DHL will also move employees over. A total of 200 employees will start work in Den Hoorn. Construction of the new site will start in June this year and, as currently planned, the carrier will move into the premises in March 2017.

Drop-off base
DHL will build a 2,250 m2 warehouse and an additional 600 m2 of office space. There will also be two Pick-Up & Delivery fingers and 60 spaces for loading and unloading delivery vans. DHL also has the environment in mind and is building energy-saving installations. The newly built service centre will be a base for some 60 delivery vans, cargo bikes for the innercity and box trucks. This will take special account of orders in the city centre of The Hague and Reeuwijk. Especially the good accessibility to and from the A4 was a reason for DHL to build there. There are several slip roads and Schiphol Airport is easy to reach. There is also good transit to Rotterdam.
