Dutch
cycle couriers have joined forces via the website fietskoeriers.nl. The cycle couriers offer online and high-street shops the opportunity to provide consumers with same-day delivery, without having to rely on delivery vans in Dutch city centres.

The website was created through a collaboration between bike couriers in Zwolle, Utrecht, Nijmegen and The Hague.
The initiators see great potential for bicycle couriers: “By
entrepreneurs, we’re rolling out the same excellent
cycling services across all our cities. We were already doing this, but now as a nationwide
delivery service for shops and online retailers across the Netherlands.” The
partner couriers offer their services in 26 Dutch cities. Shops can choose from same-day delivery, delivery within 1 or 2 hours, or delivery to city hubs outside the city (still under development).

Freight
last-mile solution

On its website, the
company explains why cycle couriers are an ideal solution for the ‘last mile’, which causes many transport operators a headache. “Not just because it’s sustainable. It’s better for our
cities. It’s no coincidence that the bike is the quickest way to get
get from A to B in the city. Cities are far too congested for cars. On a bike, you’re
don’t get in anyone’s way and you can get anywhere in the city. You can even park right on the doorstep!
Really handy if you’ve got lots of parcels to deliver.”
