US company Amazon plans to invest heavily in Europe next year. These investments come on top of the previous investments the company wanted to make in Europe. The extra money the etail giant wants to invest will create thousands of new jobs in the logistics industry.

Mainly distribution centres and one-hour service will get a boost. The extra jobs Amazon wants to create will thus be created there. The one-hour service was introduced by the Americans in the UK last year.

British business newspaper Financial Times earlier reported that Amazon created an estimated 10,000 extra jobs in 2015, bringing the total number of employees in Europe to 41,000 currently.

More employees
The number of employees in European distribution centres and e-fulfilment centres will increase significantly in the coming period due to Amazon's extra money. From these centres, the company distributes all orders it receives. Besides expanding its distribution network, Amazon also plans to invest heavily in research and development to transport goods even more efficiently. Around 2,500 new employees will be appointed this year to further roll out its one-hour service in the UK.

Europe important for innovation
Amazon says it has already invested 15 billion euros in the European logistics industry since the beginning of last year. According to the Americans, Europe will play an increasingly important role and become an important centre for innovation.
