Automation is becoming increasingly common in the logistics sector and may threaten the number of workplaces at companies. Yet a labourless society in the Netherlands is still a long way off, according to research by the Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR). They conducted research on the impact of robotisation on the workplace and the consequences for employment.

An earlier study conducted by Oxford University found that the number of jobs will halve over the next two decades. According to the WRR, this is not the case. They indicate that jobs will disappear, but other jobs will replace them. However, the nature of work is changing.

Robot agenda
The WRR uses warehouse work as an example in the study. There, the use of robots is the order of the day and work will change anyway. The council therefore wants to develop a 'robot agenda' so that robots are used in such a way that the economy benefits and workers do not lose out.

EVO, the advocate of logistics entrepreneurs, welcomes the proposal of a robot agenda. "The question is not whether we should fear robotisation, the question is how employers will accompany robotisation. How do we ensure that man and machine work to their full potential? What does it take for an employee to stay on top of the robot?"
