The transport sector recorded a slight increase in turnover in the first quarter of 2016, mainly due to a successful quarter for couriers. This is shown by figures from CBS in the Transport and Logistics Quarterly Monitor.

The transport sector's turnover trend was still just positive in the first quarter. Turnover rose 0.2 per cent year-on-year. That is the smallest turnover growth since mid-2013. Fewer companies went bankrupt in the first quarter than the year before. The mood among carriers remained positive. Couriers turned in a successful quarter. Their turnover rose by 9 per cent, thanks to the ever-increasing number of online sales. It was also a successful quarter for aviation. Turnover rose by 8.3 per cent.

Shipping, freight forwarders and warehousing companies
Pressure on freight rates caused maritime shipping turnover to fall by 6 per cent. There would be overcapacity in this global economy-oriented market. Forwarders (-4.3 per cent) and warehousing companies (-4 per cent) also had a tougher time last quarter than the year before.
