The Belgian
postal service bpost is getting help from members of the public. This week, the company launched the
shared delivery platform Bringr this week. Anyone can join the platform and earn money by delivering parcels. The first parcel
has now been marked as delivered.

Customers who want to send a parcel can find
a delivery driver via a special app. This app helps match supply with demand. Exactly how much the
delivery driver is paid depends on the weight of the parcel and how
far it needs to be taken. The sender receives a notification on their phone
when the parcel has been delivered and can also rate the driver.

’s vision
’s customer
Bpost believes there is significant customer demand for a platform like Bringr. “The
parcel market is constantly evolving, and so are customers’ needs
change and evolve every day; their requirements are becoming increasingly specific, and customers
need highly flexible, simple, tailor-made solutions,” says the postal company
.

Competition
Koen Van Gerven, CEO of bpost, is keen to harness the benefits of the
internet to stay ahead of the competition. “The digitalisation of our
world presents threats, but also offers opportunities. We must not
fear this, but rather embrace it and see how it helps us
make bpost stronger. This is innovation, and Bringr is a fine
illustration of this.” Following critical questions from Belgian trade unions, Bpost’s management has guaranteed that Bringr will not result in any job losses at the company. The trade unions have been in talks with bpost for some time now to improve working conditions. Last week, employees of the postal company went on strike to express their dissatisfaction with various issues in the workplace.

pilot
The Antwerp region is the first to trial Bringr, as the service is currently only available in that city. If the pilot proves successful, the service will be extended to other Belgian cities.
