The Netherlands is no longer in the top three best logistics countries. Our country scores just lower than leaders Germany, Luxembourg and Sweden in the Logistics Perfomance Index, which rates 160 countries.
The biennial index rates countries based on their performance in customs, infrastructure, international shipments, logistics competences and tracking & tracing. Two years ago, the Netherlands ranked second in the World Bank's report behind Germany, which this year ranked first again. Luxembourg and Sweden are notable risers: two years ago, the countries came eighth and sixth respectively.

Netherlands scores on sustainability
It is unclear why the Netherlands dropped in the rankings. The World Bank does write that the Netherlands scores high with the way the government is working to put logistics on the map. The Netherlands is also praised in the field of sustainable logistics. In this respect, the report mentions the Lean and Green programme, which has started the discussion on sustainability for both transport companies and shippers. The Netherlands also scores high on the use of big data throughout the supply chain.
The study mentions that the logistics position of developing countries has declined significantly for the first time since 2007. Syria ranks 160th due to its ongoing civil war.
