Only 35 per cent of Dutch transport companies have trained all drivers on code 95. This is according to a survey by EVO among 750 organisations.

From 9 September next, many truck drivers must have the code on their driving licence to practise their profession. This shows they have completed compulsory refresher training to improve road safety.

Challenge
According to EVO, many drivers mistakenly think that they fall under one of the exemptions or that the refresher training does not apply to them.
"Moreover, it turned out that many drivers have yet to obtain the full 35 hours. Given the short time frame, this is challenging to say the least. Drivers and companies should be well aware that driving is simply not allowed if the refresher training is not in order before then," warns EVO road transport policy advisor Patricia de Wilde.

Fine
Drivers who are checked and do not have the code 95 in order can be fined 800 euros. Moreover, they are driving around uninsured at the time.
