After often sounding discordant about the way Amazon treats its employees in the past, the company has launched a charm offensive. The US company wants to show to the outside world that working conditions in its offices and logistics centres are good.

Amazon created the slogan: 'Hier bin ich richtig' (Here I belong here) in Germany to make the opportunities for its staff clear. As employers, the etail giant has been in the news negatively in Germany for some time, with employees allegedly being harassed by security guards. Public broadcaster ARD made a documentary in 2013 about working conditions in distribution centres. As wages are often low, strikes are also frequent. In doing so, workers say they have to work too hard for too little pay. Time pressure is also reported as too high.

Plenty of opportunities
Amazon wants to polish off that image and has started a campaign. The company wants to highlight the capabilities and opportunities of its employees and highlight the health programme within the company. HR director Robert Marhan said in an interview that Amazon does a lot to make working conditions as good as possible. For instance, surveys would be conducted and employees can express how they perceive work in work groups and meetings. In doing so, Amazon states that they have attractive, safe and healthy workplaces and offer plenty of career opportunities.
