Truck drivers have a tough job that requires them to mainly sit, but also perform heavy work for short periods. To keep a close eye on their health and fitness, Scania is launching an Apple Watch for truckers. The watch contains special apps that give insight into the driver's health.
The watch's new features complement the 'Black Griffin', an earlier edition from Scania, which included monitoring fuel consumption and displaying other vehicle data. The new edition also measures the driver's condition.
Health
The smartwatch should make it easier for drivers to stay fit behind the wheel for longer. For example, the tool advises drivers on when it is good to rest or take a short break so that they can then get back behind the wheel with clarity.
Mobilise emergency services
In addition, the watch has fall detection. When the driver takes a fall, the watch can detect it and contact emergency services who can quickly arrive at the scene. This is especially useful when work has to be done in the evening or at night, where the driver is often alone.
Scania sells the watches through its online shop. The apps are available via the App Store.
