Brabant-based Theuws Metaal is to be the first company in the Netherlands to deploy Still mobile racking. Theuws has too little storage in its own company and hopes to create space gains through the mobile racking.
Previously, Theuws Metaal was using an externally rented hall, but the company wanted to get rid of that, so it was imperative for Theuws to create both production and storage space in its own building's construction plan. "We were made aware of the possibilities of mobile racking by our forklift supplier Still," says managing director Jan Theuws. "This allows us to store the same amount of goods in one-third of the normal space and that fitted exactly into our picture."
On a space of 18.5 x 27.3 metres, Still realised eleven warehouse sections, with space for almost 1,800 pallet locations. Three of these sections are fixed, the remaining eight are on four mobile trolleys. By pressing a button on the end of the rack or using the remote control on the forklift, Theuws chooses where the required aisle between the racks will be. "With the mobile racks, we reach each storage location separately," says Theuws, "This is more practical than with drive-in racks and much safer than with block stacking. Once we also start using our WMS later, the entire storage has become a lot smarter, more practical and clearer."
