Logistics service provider Fiege lets robots pick orders in its warehouse. The robots from startup Magazino are able to recognise and pick up items on their own, taking them to where the orders are packed.
The robot receives via wifi which items need to be picked. The robot recognises the products with a laser and camera system and is then able to pick up products of up to three kilos from the shelf independently. Items can be stored in the robot's internal storage space. This allows the robot to carry multiple items or orders during its journey through the warehouse.
A laser allows the robot to recognise obstacles on the road, including passing workers. This makes reflectors or markings on the floor unnecessary.
Fiege aims for a faster and more efficient logistics process by deploying robots. For Magazino, developer of the robot, the challenge was that the robots can work together with warehouse workers. "We took into account from the beginning that the robot can work side by side with humans. This part of the order-picking process is gradually being automated."
