Carrier DHL will also assemble kitchens it delivers to consumers at home. In doing so, it responds to the growing number of kitchens bought online.

For this new service, DHL intends to partner not only
with online retailers, but also with local and regional kitchen manufacturers, who can use this to
expand their reach. “Through an online shop and our existing
infrastructure and logistics expertise, they can significantly
expand their market reach,” says the German courier service. The kitchens are assembled by two
delivery drivers. It is therefore a requirement that every kitchen is fitted with a
clear instruction manual. Consumers can track their parcel online to see where it is at that
moment.

DHL launched the service because it notes that consumers are increasingly turning to the web for furniture and kitchens. Six per cent of furniture items are currently said to be bought online. Consumers would find it safer to order their kitchens online, as floor plans are often more accurate.
