FedEx Express is investing 200 million euros in the expansion of its logistics hub at Charles de Gaulle airport near Paris. With the investment, FedEx Express aims to increase sorting capacity by 40 per cent, among other things.

FedEx will start construction of the new location in summer 2017. In a press release, the company says that the new hub will be one of the most modern express logistics facilities, with advanced technologies to improve sorting capacity, including a fully automated sorting system for larger parcels and poorly handled shipments. "This investment is part of our network expansion strategy, it creates more capacity and it enables more business contacts - within Europe and globally," said David Binks, president of FedEx Express Europe and CEO of TNT.

The new building will be fully operational from 2019 and will receive HQE and BREEAM certification, meaning it will be built entirely with non-polluting materials and equipped with LED.

FedEx Express operates 48 French cities. Paris-Charles de Gaulle is currently the largest FedEx hub outside the US. In addition, the hubs in Cologne, Germany and the TNT network in Liege, Belgium will remain key components for the group in the future.
