A large majority of consumers expect unmanned aerial vehicles to deliver parcels within five years. Not all consumers are enthusiastic about that, according to research by the United States Postal Service Office.

Of 1,207 US respondents, 75 per cent expect drones to deliver within five years. 44 per cent of consumers think this is a positive development. 34 per cent of respondents say they are not enthusiastic about this. Safety, in particular, plays a role in this. Over a third of consumers think it is not safe to let drones fly independently. In addition, consumers are concerned about theft of products, misuse of the drones and wrong deliveries.

'Amazon first to launch drone delivery'

A lot is expected from etailer Amazon in particular when it comes to drone delivery. Consumers who were familiar with drone delivery associated it with Amazon in 70 per cent of cases. Consumers see in Amazon a reliable party for launching the technology. The etail giant came out as the most reliable, followed by UPS, FedEx and USPS. Google was rated the least reliable party.
