Belgian bpost has taken a stake in delivery network De Buren. The Dutch company expects the popularity of takeaway lockers to grow substantially and therefore aims for twenty times as many collection points.
De Buren is aiming for nationwide coverage with a thousand unmanned collection points. These points, despite bpost's share, are also available to other parties in both retail, e-commerce and parcel logistics. "The open nature of this new network means that other parcel services and retailers can also use de Buren's vaults," he said. In the Netherlands, the Neighbours has been working with DHL and TNT Innight for some time, with DPD also having indicated that it is pursuing a partnership," says managing director Robin Bragstra. Consumers can collect the parcel 7 days a week at a convenient time without staff intervention. Refrigerated lockers also allow grocery delivery.
De Buren also aims to increase its market share in Belgium. De Buren currently has one collection point in Brussels. With bpost’s ‘substantial stake’, this figure is set to rise to a total of five hundred. Bpost itself already operates 150 parcel lockers in Belgium.
Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
