FNV Transport and Logistics wants more appreciation for truck drivers. The union is therefore asking for a three per cent pay rise in the new transport collective agreement. "Employers are jubilant that things are going well again in the sector, but workers are not noticing anything of that yet," said Egon Groen, cao negotiator.
Negotiations for a new transport collective agreement started yesterday. The FNV is aiming for a three-year collective agreement. Besides a three per cent wage increase, the union is calling for wage improvements for highly experienced drivers and more say in working hours. Drivers would barely earn 14 euros gross per hour. In addition, they should be available to work seven days a week and 24 hours a day. "That is out of date. Always working, always being available for your boss."
New generation of drivers
To be more attractive to a new generation of drivers, working conditions must therefore be adjusted. "If we want to retain current professionals and attract young people, we need to change this culture in the transport sector. What young person still wants to work in the sector under these conditions?" The union also wants to agree on a generation pact, which allows older people to work less. This will make more room for young people in the sector.
