Hotels can put empty rooms on sites like booking.com. For container transport via barge, train and truck, there was no such site yet.Until now. The new platform TEUbooker.com aims to reduce the number of transport movements and therefore competes with unused capacity in the port of Rotterdam.
According to founder Frans Swarttouw, shipping companies and organisers often lack time and insight into all transport possibilities. TEUbooker.com should offer them insight into available transport. "Optimised transport means fewer transport movements. This is not only more efficient, but also cheaper and better for the environment."
TEUbooker's algorithm matches demand and capacity in current transport movements. The booker can monitor the progress of his transport. Carriers such as Danser, DistriRail, Pro-Log and Port Shuttle have already indicated they will work with the system. "They want nothing more than a full train or barge. More operators will follow, as the enthusiasm is great," said Swarttouw, who as Managing Director is in charge of TEUbooker.com on a day-to-day basis. Although the site currently focuses on transport within the port of Rotterdam, the platform should soon also open up the European hinterland.
"By linking supply and demand in an innovative way, TEUbooker supports the further optimisation of the logistics process within Rotterdam. This is positive for the parties in the chain," said Hans Nagtegaal, Director Containers Port of Rotterdam Authority.
