Clients in the transport sector will also soon be held liable
for underpaying their employees. The Senate has thus
has given its approval.

This concerns the extension of the Act on Tackling Bogus Schemes(WAS). This Act ensures that not only
employers are held responsible for paying the correct wages to
their employees, but also clients. However, the Act did not apply to
work carried out under a transport contract or a freight forwarding contract. This has been a
thorn in the side of the transport sector, as it is precisely there that there are many cases of
exploitation.

With the Senate’s approval, freight transport by
will be included in the legislation. From 2017, this will therefore enable more effective enforcement of
fair pay. Unfair competition
on the roads and with drivers who drive around for next to nothing, thereby
jobs”, says
Minister Asscher of Social Affairs, commenting on the agreement.
