German supermarket discounter will move into a distribution centre of 30,000 to 40,000 square metres in Roosendaal on business park Borchwerf II. For this, it is currently negotiating with a private developer, BN de Stem writes on the basis of confidential sources.
Lidl is reportedly not planning to build its own, but has its eye on an existing property. Lidl has not yet responded to the claims and Hans de Bruin of business park Borchwerf also did not want to confirm Lidl's arrival. He did state that many new companies are coming to the business park. "A lot of applications are coming in," he said.
Primark' s distribution centre is also located at the same business park. The fashion retailer started construction of the mega-DC last year at a cost of 26 million euros. The first part, of almost six hectares and twenty metres high has now been completed. Another three hectares of twenty metres high will be added later.
Lidl already has several distribution centres in Brabant, including in Etten-Leur, Breda and the port of Moerdijk. In Oosterhout in Gelderland, Lidl wants to build a distribution centre. In addition to regular food products, the supermarket chain has recently been focusing on selling non-food items such as sportswear and household goods. A new DC may be sought for this purpose.
