The Schweizerische Post will carry out commercial flights with drones next year. The drones will not fly to home addresses of consumers, but only to places where businesses are located.
The drone from the company Skycart will then act as a kind of shuttle between different locations of companies. The little vehicle is capable of carrying packages weighing five kilos and flies as much as 60 kilometres per hour. The drone can fly no more than twenty kilometres. The Schweizerische Post expects the drone to be a godsend for urgent deliveries or for locations that are difficult to reach.
Drone developments have been rapid. In 2015, the postal company started testing drones. At the time, the Schweizerische Post reported that it would take another five to 10 years before drones would actually deliver.
