Fontys Hogeschool Techniek en Logistiek in Venlo is to carry out four major innovation projects together with forty partners to improve the position of the Netherlands as a logistics country. The focus is on strengthening Limburg as an e-fulfilment location.
The parties will launch the following research projects early next year:
- E-Global: Strengthening the Netherlands' competitive position in E-Fullfilment.
- UCC Customs Code: Reducing the administrative burden of customs supervision to ensure an undisturbed logistics chain. To this end, it examines what opportunities the new customs regulations could offer within the framework of the new Union Customs Code (DWU).
- SYN-ERGIE: Strengthen transport services and logistics planning on the corridor between West Flanders and Limburg. To this end, the project investigates how and with which modalities cargo can be transported between Zeebrugge, Antwerp and Limburg.
- Synchromodal Pricing: Developing optimal pricing models for synchromodal services for maritime container and continental cargo flows. To this end, an analysis of risk factors will be made.
The research themes have been co-determined by the regional business community and Top Sector Logistics. Fontys will carry out the projects with other educational organisations (including Erasmus University Amsterdam), logistics service providers such as DB Schenker and Den Hartogh Logistics and parters such as Thuiswinkel.org, PWC, Deloitte and the Customs/Tax Administration.
The results of the research will not only be included in the teaching programmes of Fontys' logistics courses, but will also be made available through the KennisDC Logistiek Limburg. "We are very pleased with the award of these projects, this shows that Fontys not only provides education to students, but also wants to share and create knowledge together with the sector to come up with innovative solutions," said Fontys director Hans Aarts in a press release about the projects.
