More than 70,000 new vans were sold in 2016. That is an increase of 22 per cent, according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Truck sales were also on the rise.
It is unclear why so many new vans crossed the counter. Possibly it has to do with the growth of e-commerce. With this, the number of parcel deliverers driving around is also growing. An increase in the number of vans sold is also expected in the coming year.
In 2016, 14,000 new trucks (including semi-trailer tractors) were sold. In 2015, there were 13,000.
