Portena Logistics in Heerenveen is taking over the Drachten-based
Bulstra Transport. With this takeover, Portena hopes to become a major player
in the market for parcel delivery and larger consignments.

According to Portena,
Bulstra’s shipment volumes are generally smaller than those of the company based in
Heerenveen. “Their fleet is also geared towards this. We want to
to position ourselves more broadly and strongly. The market outlook is that
shipment volumes are becoming smaller whilst increasing in number”, says managing director
René Visser.

In addition, Portena,
which focuses primarily on food and consumer goods, to provide even better
coverage in the finely meshed distribution network in the North. “As a result,
our position nationwide will also be strengthened, as Portena is regarded as the hub of the
North. We are the perfect base for this part of the country”,
said Visser.

Bulstra aims to secure the company’s future
According to Sibout
Bulstra of Bulstra Transport, a takeover is inevitable due to the changing
world of transport. By seeking to join forces with a larger organisation,
Bulstra hopes to ensure the company’s continued existence and safeguard jobs
. Bulstra will remain in post for the time being to ensure the takeover goes smoothly
. The warehouse in Drachten will remain open.

Portena has over
two hundred employees and has an annual turnover of more than 25 million
euros. This makes the company more than four times the size of Bulstra.
The latter has 40 employees and a turnover of 6 million euros.

Portena on the takeover path
The Heerenveen-based distributor does not rule out more takeovers in the future. The company is orienting itself to other parts of the country so that it can intensify goods flows. Portena already has a branch in Waardenburg, specifically for food transport and distribution.
