The Authority Consumer & Market (ACM) is investigating whether companies in the 'ports & transport' sector exchange information on prices, investments and customers. The reason for the investigation is the cartel fines imposed on French companies that discussed their intended price increases through industry associations.

According to ACM, it is necessary for companies to exchange data and precisely align logistics chains. However, companies that discuss competition-sensitive information with each other, on e.g. stocks, customers, tenders, investments and market shares, may constitute a cartel. This also applies to information disseminated among members of a trade association.

The watchdog will sit down with companies and industry associations to find out how and in what way information is exchanged. The conclusions from this particular sector could also be relevant for other companies in logistics, which supply the same products and services from stock.
